The Environmental Working Group recently released their Dirty Dozen 2017 list…produce with the most pesticide residue or the most harmful. There are several changes: Spinach shot up to number 2, Pears moved and strawberries continue to be number one due to the sheer number of chemicals , the serious harm they can cause and the fact that we are eating significantly more strawberries thus increasing the harmful effects. Below, I’ve taken excerpts from the EWG website to highlight some of the issues.
Many people walking around today are actually malnourished. Why? Six reasons:
Lack of nutrients in conventional soils – particularly regarding minerals, 2. Produce picked too early, stored too long, or processed, 3. Common medications (all ages, prescribed and over-the-counter) block the absorptions of many vitamins and nutrients, 4. Preservatives in food & packaging as well as herbicides & pesticide residues influence whether vitamins/minerals are absorbed and used properly, 5. Not getting a variety of vitamins/minerals,
“People have a lot of opinions about juice cleanses, and a lot of those opinions seem to be negative. Questions and comments like, “Why would I ever choose to starve myself,” or, “I heard juice cleanses make you miserable,” often come up during a discussion about detoxing. While we understand why the thought of consuming nothing but juice may raise some eyebrows, remember the saying, “You can’t knock it till you try it.” Perhaps after reading on about the benefits of a juice cleanse,
Many people walking around today are actually malnourished. This includes those who look healthy, are obese, take medications, are young and older, and those who eat seemingly healthful diets and take supplements. Why? Six reasons:
- 1. Lack of nutrients in conventional soils – particularly regarding minerals
- 2. Produce picked too early, stored too long, or processed
- 3. Common medications (all ages, prescribed and over-the-counter) block the absorptions of many vitamins and nutrients
40% of honeybee colonies died in the past year according to a recent USDA report and that doesn’t include all the dealths prior to that time. The culprit appears to be a neuro-toxic pesticide marketed by Bayer. It affects the central nervous system that impairs the bee’s mobility, navigation, feeding, foraging, memory and learning. Bees go foraging and never return, very unusual. When the European Union was presented with this evidence, they immediately suspended the use of the most widely used neonicotinoids.
Rosemary is great for knocking out the norovirus…it can also help get rid of listeria and salmonella (use in marinades and sauces). Simple ways to add this herb to your diet include: 1) steeping it in your tea (add a 1-2 inch sprig of fresh rosemary when you add the tea bag). 2) stuff the bird (add one branch to the inside cavity of a chicken and bake – I put balsamic vinegar on the skin side) 3) add fresh cut rosemary leaves to your marinades –
After researching many tea companies, I decided on Davidson’s Teas for several reasons:
- 1. Their philosophy – “committed to sourcing healthy ingredients grown by generations of skill small farmers…engaging in sustainable practices….we are the first exclusively organic tea purveyor…we honor mind and body…we provide the purest organic tea direct from the farm to your cup”
- 2. Organic tea is important as tea is not washed so residues of herbicides/pesticides remain
